The Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) oversees medical residency and fellowship programs, ensuring they meet national standards set by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The GMEC works closely with the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) to monitor and enforce policies that ensure the quality of medical training. The committee is composed of BIDMC leaders, program directors, peer-selected residents, and other key staff. It is responsible for reviewing and approving major program changes, ensuring compliance with work hour rules, and overseeing the quality of education and training environments. GMEC meets at least quarterly, and special meetings are held as needed, with a quorum requiring 50% attendance. Subcommittees are formed to assist with specific tasks, and their decisions are reported back to the GMEC. Minutes of meetings are kept, documenting actions taken and referencing relevant ACGME requirements. The GMEC's Charter can be amended with approval from the committee and the Medical Executive Committee (MEC). For a more detailed overview please view the GMEC Charter below:
All requests to be added to GMEC agenda for review and approval should be sent to: ldubois3@bidmc.harvard.edu at least two weeks prior to next meeting.
