Director, Innovation and Research for Shapiro Simulation & Skills Center (SASC)

Salary Support: $50,000 stipend

Term: Two years, renewable at discretion of Senior Director of SASC and VP for Education

​

Position Summary: Primary responsibility for overseeing and expanding simulation education research and developing innovative programming for the medical center-wide Simulation and Skills education facility (SASC). This includes

fostering advancements in both medical and nursing education, as well as promoting interprofessional

education across disciplines. The director will also support administrative activities through advocacy and

lobbying for space, funds, and equipment to further the mission of the SASC. They are also responsible for

pursuing external sources of funding, such as grants, to enhance simulation and skills training.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Director of SASC, the Director of Innovation and Research will collaborate with SASC

leadership and serve as a champion of simulation education research within BIDMC by seeking funding,

equipment, and other resources to further the Center’s mission. The director is responsible for overseeing

research endeavors and pursuing grant funding to support SASC initiatives in medical simulation. They will also

attend regular meetings of the SASC Executive Curriculum Committee, the Research Committee and the SASC

Advisory Committee, and attend regular leadership meetings within SASC.

The director works with the Senior Director of SASC and the Vice President for Education to develop and

execute programs consistent with the annual operating goals for SASC. They will collaborate with the Senior

Director and other Center for Education faculty on major projects and goals as they pertain to medical

simulation and education research. Additionally, the director will work with the Director of Medical Education

Research to identify opportunities to advance the research mission through grant procurement and

scholarship. They will also play a key role in growing and integrating simulation education research across the

BILH network.

Qualifications/Skills & Knowledge Requirements:

​

  • M.D. or PhD equivalent required

  • Experience in medical education and human subject research, with a focus on simulation training

  • Familiarity with the continuum of medical education, from medical students to continuing medical education

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary faculty, trainees, and staff

  • Experience in designing, implementing, and managing innovative educational programs, research endeavors, and the application and administration of grants
