Annual Program Evaluation (APE)

From the ACGME Common Program Requirements:

• Templates and Resources:

  • Annual Program Evaluation guidance and meeting minutes template

• All programs must have a Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) with at least two faculty members and at least one resident/fellow

• PEC MUST conduct and document an Annual Program Evaluation (APE) as part of the program’s continuous improvement by:

  • considering outcomes from prior year’s APE

  • aggregating resident and faculty evaluations of the program & other relevant data

  • distributing and discussing the action plan with residents/fellows, members of the teaching faculty, and submitting the action plan to the DIO.

Annual Program Review (APR)

• Fulfills the institution’s required GMEC oversight of both accredited and NST/NA programs including: 

  • The quality of the GME learning and working environment and educational experiences.

  • Annual Program Evaluation (APE) oversight

  • Special Review Process for underperforming programs in adherence with the institutional Special Review Protocol
